# Crochet - Neckties (created Feb 24, 2021) Past related posts: => https://sawv.org/2017/11/14/crochet-necktie-ideas.html => https://sawv.org/2018/03/16/notes-february-march-2018.html I crocheted three neckties in early 2018. The colors were walnut (brownish), dark blue and grey, and dark green for the Claire, MI St. Patrick's Day festival. Currently, I have four crocheted necktie WIPs (works in progress). All are using hand dyed or hand painted sock weight yarns. I'm using a metal crochet hook, sized 2.35 mm. I wrapped athletic tape around the handle of the small hook to make it more comfortable to hold. I'm only using the half-double crochet stitch. I start at the bottom of the tie or the widest part of the tie, and I crochet up, making decreases at specific intervals. For three of the four ties, I started by making 15 chain stitches. For tie number two, I started with 16 chain stitches. 15 is wide enough for me with sock weight yarn. A chain of 15 stitches made a tie width of 2.0 inches or 5.0 centimeters. The one additional chain made the width of about 5.5 cm. A chain of 15 meant that I made 13 actual HDC stitches per row. I chained 2 at the end of each row. I made decreases at the following intervals: * 15 inches (12 hdc) * 18 inches (11 hdc) * 21 inches (10 hdc) * 24 inches - decreased on two consecutive rows, leaving 8 hdc per row. I crocheted 3 more inches with 8 hdc per row. At around 27-inch mark, I added black quilting thread to the mix. I crocheted the yarn and the thread together. Hopefully, this makes the tie a little stiffer. When I tug on the narrow part of the tie to tighten the knot, that part of the tie stretches out some. The plan for finishing the ties is to make another decrease, possibly two decreases, at the 42-inch mark. I'll stop crocheting after 52 inches. I started the first tie of this group last month, January 2021. The other ties I started this month. * Tie number one: yarn = Bad Amy's Knits; color = "Brown", mostly dark brown with some lighter brown bits included. * Tie number two: yarn = Bad Amy's Knits; color = "Charcoal", shades of dark greys with some bits of light grey. * Tie number three: yarn = Cat Sock Fibers LLC; unsure of the color name. the colors were black, red, and grey. * Tie number four; yarn = Icemelon's Stash; color name = "You're Pretty Buff for a Nerd." the colors were black, dark purple, and grey. I bought yarns for ties 3 and 4 at a yarn event, held in January 2018 or 2019 at the Sandhill Winery, located near Jackson, MI. Both yarns are colorful in subtle ways. And I always like Bad Amy's yarns. Bad Amy maintains her studio in West Toledo, not far from our home. -30- ``` dir : 2021/02/24 ```
